Lyrics
Darien looked down at the baton in his hand. His debut at the prestigious World of Europa Classical and Chamber Music Convention in Paris was about to begin. There had already been quite a stir about this fiery new composer throughout the world of classical music during the fierce competition, culminating with his composition “Riding the Crescendo” having won him the coveted showcase spot at World Of Europa. He could sense the anticipation rise with the drone of the orchestra as they were warming up. His heart pounded in his chest. Tonight’s concert was the first of a succession of performances that he was to conduct each night during the week long convention.
Suddenly, the backstage curtain rustled and there stood before him a cloaked figure, as if it had come out of the curtain itself. The figure grasped his arm and placed in his hand a note, whispering, “You, Darien, have been chosen for such a time as this”. Then the apparition like figure seemed to glide down the back stairwell, through the backstage door and into the night. Darien stood there stunned, trying to collect his thoughts. Was this some kind of trick by Sabothian Wolfe, his rival whom he had edged out in the competition? Perhaps this was some crazy attempt to throw him off of his game right before the most important moment in his career. He unfolded the note to read what appeared to be a riddle.
"Go underground to find the attic.
Two days west of the eagle’s nest, fly by night.
In that town you will find sanctuary.
The key to the kingdom is in F.
You will find it on the G clef."
Suddenly, the house lights dimmed and the master of ceremonies began his formal introduction of Darien, recounting his accomplishments that began with his childhood as a violin prodigy in France and leading up to this very night’s introduction of “Ladies and Gentlemen… please extend a warm welcome for Darien Martini as he conducts our philharmonic in ‘Riding the Crescendo’". Darien quickly stuffed the note into the inside pocket of his coat and walked out to the podium.
