I'm often approached by guitarists in attendance of one of my concerts, raving about the quality of my guitar sound and wanting to know what gear I'm using. They obviously see the Marshall amp, but here's the thing... the amp isn't mic'd. It's there for stage volume only and there's a separate line coming from my pedalboard into the Marshall. What you are hearing when you attend a Chicago Rewired or REO Survivor concert is a carefully crafted sound beginning with the pickups on guitars and routed into the ADA analog pre-amp on my pedalboard. My wah pedal, compressor and phazer are in fromt of the pre-amp and my Dreamscape pedal, delay and reverb are in the effects loop of my pre-amp which flows through the ADA cabinet simulator and straight into the house system. If the front of house sound engineer knows his stuff, he will take the signal that I give him and put the icing on the cake in the form of a finely sculpted guitar sound perfect for the venue. He's not competing with my amp because the house sound system is my AMP!! Yeah there's the Marshall but unless you're standing directly in front of it, you're not hearing it.
So whether you're listening to one of my albums or catching me live, I've listed below some links to the the gear I use or gadgets that closely resemble some pieces that aren't readily available. In addition, my love of ESP guitars is growing and you will see me using them more and more in the future, in particular the ones shown below.
